Nissan Qashqai : A Brief Review:
This excellent new compact crossover vehicle seems to have hit the UK market by storm.
Introducing: You are probably thinking, what a strange name, not sure about that, well the Qashqai was given the name after an Iranian desert-dwelling nomadic tribe. It is intended for this vehicle to replace the Almera hatchback, Almera Tino compact MPV and the Nissan Primera saloon. Personally we think that it does just that! The Qashqai is very unassuming and if you can live with that then here is a Ford Focus mixed in with a teeny Land Rover Discovery.
Qashqai Features: A version of Nissan's All-Mode 4x4 system as found in the X-Trail
is available as an option on 2.0-litre versions only meaning that
the rest will be simply 2 wheel drive vehicles. You buy this vehicle
for the space it gives you and it does fit 5 adults quite comfortably.
The new Qashqai +2 has two additional rear seats for added functionality,
but we are a little surprised that Nissan did not add them in
the first versions released. Build quality is exceptional according
to reports and boots space sadly average. Rear visibility is not
that great, but with Nissan reputation of reliability there is
little chance of that slowing sales on this great little vehicle.
All models are surprisingly well equipped, with electric windows,
alloys, air-con, a CD player and Blue tooth connection included.
Safety is a key strength of the vehicle, too. A rigid body shell
providing maximum passive safety is matched by a plethora of active
safety features including the latest generation ESP which includes
brake torque control and engine torque control. The braking system
is similarly advanced and features hydraulic fade compensation
(HFC) to provide the ultimate stopping power at all times. The
only disappointment is that ESP isn't standard across the range.
Production: Nissan set out with a production target of 80 000 to 100 000 units in the first year, but it seems that they are already having to increase production to cope with demand. That means that your not likely to pick up a second hand bargain just yet as demand is really very high for this Cross Over. As for the drive, well the Qashqai has slightly firmer suspension than you would think, responsive brakes and an average turning circle. The vehicle does give the driver confidence when driving! Engaging the 4wd has its benefits and 4wd is only available in a 2 litre. Little chance though that you would see one of these doing serious off roading anyway so if you live in the rural areas perhaps this option would suit you nicely. No more than around 5% of UK sales are 4wd.
There are three versions of the Qashqai:
Qashqai Tenka with leather heated seats, panoramic glass roof and Xenon front
lights
Qashqai Acenta with leather bound steering wheel and gear knob, rain sensing
wipers and automatic lights and audio rear parking system, heated
seats, panoramic glass roof and Xenon front lights
Qashqai Visia is the basic version with a material interior, cd/radio that
has Blue tooth compatibility; electric side mirrors and speed
sensitive power steering. He Visia starts at £13 799 and is available
with the same engines that come in all the other models. What
you don't get with the Visia is the electric folding mirrors,
voice audio controller and 6 cd shuttle, auto light on and rain
sensing wipers or the Ultra sonic alarm system either. Also the
rear view mirrors are not colour coded, so they really do not
look anywhere near as good as those on the Qashqai Tenka or Acenta!
Inside all the drivers' controls and instruments are ergonomically positioned around the driver and there is plenty of leg space for all the passengers too. The Qashqai comes with a huge safety laminated panoramic glass sun roof which when open makes the passengers feel more like they are at the Wembley Stadium than inside a 4wd / city compact vehicle.
They vehicle has been awarded a 5 star Euro ENCAP safety rating and is sold with no less than 6 airbags! Now the clever guys at Nissan are launching the new QASHQAI+2. Featuring the new 3rd row, stylish design and extra storage space, the QASHQAI+2 will definitely be a major contender in the MPV market. The Qashqai comes with an optional 3 years paint guarantee as well as a massive optional 12 year anti corrosion warranty.
From all of us here at HSL Finance we wish you many happy miles in your new
Nissan Qashqai if you do decide to buy one! |
